She manages to read Kant as a sex advisor and calls for the eroticization of equality. In her bestseller «The Joy of Consent: A Philosophy of Good Sex», the French philosopher Manon Garcia shows why «yes» is a necessary but not sufficient condition for an autonomous and fulfilling sexuality. Catherine Newmark looks forward to hearing from her how we can apply this philosophical theory in our own beds — and which gender-based injustices we need to overcome in order to do so.

Manon Garcia, who previously held positions at Harvard and Yale, is now Professor of Practical Philosophy at Freie Universität Berlin. In France, she is considered one of the most influential and widely read philosophers of her generation. Her books «We Are Not Born Submissive: How Patriarchy Shapes Women’s Lives», «The Joy of Consent: A Philosophy of Good Sex», and «Living With Men: Reflections on the Pelicot Trial» have been translated into numerous languages.

Catherine Newmark holds a PhD in philosophy and works as a cultural journalist in Berlin. Among other roles, she is an editor and presenter of the philosophy programme «Sein und Streit» on Deutschlandfunk Kultur. Her published books include «Passion – Affekt – Gefühl. Philosophische Theorien der Emotionen zwischen Aristoteles und Kant», «Warum auf Autoritäten hören?», and «Viel zu lernen du noch hast. Star Wars und die Philosophie».
